The Liebherr
LRS 545 Reachstacker is used in port applications where
it can move and stack containers up to five high.
Packaging
The model comes in a Liebherr-styled box, and the model
is securely contained within two expanded polystyrene trays.
It is protected in the box with parts being wrapped.
There were no defects or missing parts on the review
model.
A coloured
instruction sheet is provided, and this describes the
most of the features of the model. Two tools are
included
There is no information about the real machine.
Detail
The model is
large and heavy. Underneath there is little detail
to see, although the large tyres have got a nice tread
pattern. The wheels are detailed.
At the back the curved shape is modelled well and the
painted lights look very good. The rear view
camera position is marked.
A metal stairway runs up to the parked cab position and
the handrails are realistically thin. Walkway
surfaces are textured.
The large cab has a detailed interior and the window
seals are all highlighted in black. Flexible
control cables run to the engine area.
At the front there is a metal support plate with the
pistons that control it modelled as screw threads.
The wheel arches are metal and feel robust.
Under the engine cover is a highly detailed engine made
of a number of parts.
The boom rams have plastic jackets, and there are a
number of soft hydraulic hoses running to the rear of
the boom. Hydraulics detailing along the boom
includes silvered pipes and an extending cable to the
spreader assembly. The main boom is metal
with the inside telescope being a mixture of metal and
plastic.
The spreader is almost entirely metal with just the
hydraulic ram jackets in plastic.
A replica 40ft container is included and it is plastic,
presumably to improve the stability of the model.
However, it does look like plastic and would have been
much nicer if painted.
Features
It rolls very smoothly, helped by the heavy weight.
The rear axle has steering which reaches a decent angle,
but not as much as the real machine.
The cab can move forward on rails from the parking
position in order to provide improved visibility.
The mechanism works reasonably well on the model.
The engine cover is removable.
The support plate at the front is designed to provide
improved lifting capacity. It can be lowered using
the supplied screwdriver on the screwed pistons.
In practice it would have been easier if the plate was
fixed to stiff pull-down pistons.
The boom rams are stiff and can hold any pose.
The telescopic boom slides smoothly and has a locking
clip at full extension.
The spreader can be extended to handle containers up to
45 foot. It can be angled to suit the boom angle,
and also rotates fully.
The spreader can be clipped into the plastic container
so the model can be posed lifting.
Quality
This a heavy and well made model by NZG, with a high metal
content.
The paintwork is nice and the Liebherr graphics are very
sharp.
Price
It is a fair price for a large model.
Overall
This is an interesting model which is well made, and the
detailing of the engine is particularly good. It
functions well and looks good posed with a number of
containers.
Footnotes
The model first appeared in prototype at the Nuremberg Toy
Fair in 2017.
