The DR410i is a rotary blast hole drill. It can
achieve a single pass hole depth of 14m. The
operating weight is in the range 63-70 tonnes.
Packaging
The model is very robustly packed in outer and inner
shipping cartons complete with corner protectors.
Inside those, foam rubber protects a large picture box.
The packaging protects a Perspex display case which
itself is wrapped with clear film.
There were no missing parts or defects on the review
model.
There is some information about the real machine on the
box. An instruction sheet is included which
describes the main functionality.
Detail
The display case is high quality and the base has sharp
red stitching and a metal name badge.
The underside of the carrier has a detailed frame which
reflects the nature of the production method used.
It is CNC milled and is precisely formed. There is
a large Siks Scale Models plate.
The tracks are metal and mounted on detailed track
frames. There are precision engineered rollers top
and bottom. The levelling jacks have formed metal
pads but the pistons have visible screw threads.
The deck is excellent with finely crafted metal
handrails all around and tiny graphics add authentic
detail. A particular high point is the quality of
the etched footways and grilles, and this carries
through to the steps on stairs and ladders. At the
rear there is an attachment plate (presumably for the
electric version) and it has extremely small holes
drilled. Underneath the deck there are rubber
skirts around the drill head.
The cab has discrete windscreen wipers and the internal
detail is very good. The open engine is made up of
many different components and it is highly detailed.
The fan enclosures are superb. The model also
features the optional derrick crane for bit handling and
it has small graphics applied. Fire suppression
equipment is also modelled.
The mast is not diecast but is laser cut metal and this
allows the complexity to be perfectly represented.
A full mesh platform is also included. Hose guide
frames are also modelled and there is a beacon light at
the top.
The rotary head has the motors with hydraulic hoses
running to them. The drill pipe has a tiny but
detailed drill bit. The chain drive for the rotary
head is also included. At the bottom the breakout
clamp is provided.
Features
The tracks roll smoothly and are spring loaded to
maintain tension.
The levelling jacks can be lowered by unscrewing.
The hydraulic stairs can be lowered and raised smoothly.
An access ladder extension can be raised and lowered.
The derrick crane boom can be raised and lowered.
The mast folds horizontally smoothly but there is not
enough friction in the hydraulic rams to pose angled
drilling.
The rotary head can be raised and lowered fully and the
chain drive works. It is a little stiff so care is
needed when moving it.
The breakout clamp at the bottom of the drill pipe can
be rotated in and out of position.
The model can be removed from its display case.
The instructions say this would be at the owner's risk
due to the delicacy of the model, but in practice
undoing the securing bolts is straightforward.
Quality
This is very high quality model. The metal content
is very high and the various model making techniques
employed produce high fidelity.
The paintwork and graphics are generally excellent.
Price
This is an expensive model driven largely by very low
production numbers. However, it offers an
exceptional model for the price.
Overall
This is an excellent model, and it is made using an
impressive array of modelling techniques. It is
particularly authentic looking and is a superb display
piece in its display case. Siks Scale Models has set a
very high standard with this model.
Footnotes
The model first appeared in July 2025. It was
produced in very low numbers.
