The Mantsinen 300 is a material handler designed for port
applications. It is claimed to be the largest hydraulic
crane in the world, and is able to recycle energy
during work cycles. The overall weight of the machine
ranges between 320-380 tonnes.
This model is the crawler track version and comes with clamshell
and orange peel grabs.
Packaging
The box is large, and inside the model is held within expanded polystyrene trays.
The review model had no defects or missing parts.
Some description of the real machine is included on the
box and there are no instructions for the model.
Detail
The tracks are made of a rubber material with some
texture, and they are a modelling compromise. They
are mounted on reasonably detailed track frames with no moving rollers.
The legs are metal and robust and they have sharp
graphics. A staircase including a gate rises up to
the slewing platform and it is made of soft plastic.
The cab is metal with decent interior
detailing and banks of lights are modelled. The cab linkage
is metal with the connecting rivets being on the large
side.
The body is metal and has detailing of panels and
equipment within the casting There are excellent
graphics on the counterweight.
The boom and stick are plastic to reduce the weight, and
they have an excellent colour match. Tie bars are metal.
The hydraulics are simple with no hoses.
The clamshell grab is a plastic part, as is the
orange peel grab.
Features
The crawler tracks could not be fully rolled on the
review model.
The model rotates smoothly.
The cab linkage has a good range and poses can be set.
The boom and stick movement is very good, and the hydraulic rams
can hold a pose.
The orange peel grab swings and each tine opens and
closes separately. They rely on simple stiffness
at the connections and this was variable on the review
model.
The clamshell grab is a fixed moulding.
Quality
The quality is very good having regard for the scale.
The paintwork has a good finish and the graphics are
very sharp.
Price
The model is anticipated to be reasonable value.
Overall
This is impressive model in 1/87 scale. To meet
its primary purpose as a promotional item there are some
compromises, however the overall appearance of the model
is pleasing.
Footnotes
The model first appeared at the Bauma Exhibition 2019.
