Comment on this model.

This tractor is a MAN TGX XLX 8x6 with ballast box.

It is in the colours of Fanger, a Swiss crane hire company.

Packaging

The packaging is the usual WSI branded box with the model resting in an expanded polystyrene tray with a clear plastic lid.

There were no missing parts or defects on the review model.

There is no information provided about the real machine or model and the assembly is limited to fixing the towing hitches and ballast box.

Detail

It has very good chassis detail underneath with drive shafts, differentials and suspension modelled, and the gearbox is rendered in silver. The tyres have different treads on the front and rear axle pairs, and are mounted on detailed wheels with smart trims.  The cab sits a little high to the front wheel but this is correct compared to the real truck as it accommodates the driven front axle.

The cab is fully detailed with windscreen wipers and colour coded mirrors, and the roof has an excellent light bar, and beacon lights which appear a little narrower than the real truck.  A particularly nice aspect of the model is the Fanger graphics and colour scheme which includes the MAN model number TGX 41.680 and a realistic number plate.

Inside the cab, the details include nice moulded seats and MAN is printed on the steering wheel.  Under the cab is a detailed engine and it has 'Common Rail' written in tiny text.

Behind the cab, the equipment tower is very detailed with various tanks and a fan on top which is covered by a realistic mesh screen.  Twin exhaust pipes are included but they stop short at the bottom. Coiled lines are available to connect into a trailer.

Diamond plated surfacing extends to the fifth wheel, and plastic wheel arches cover the rear three axles. At the back, the lights have plastic lenses and there is a number plate.

The ballast box is smartly decorated but is a fairly simple casting with no side detail although there is some at the rear.

Features

The steering is very stiff with very limited movement.

The cab tilts forward to about 45° and can pose in the tilted position.

The ballast box is removable and the fifth wheel can accommodate a trailer although as it is fixed in position longitudinally not all trailers will fit.

The towing hitches at the front and rear have removable pins.

Quality

It is a relatively heavy and well made model with plastic used appropriately on the equipment tower.

The paintwork and graphics are generally high quality.

Price

The price reflects the limited edition status of the model.

Overall

This is a very good looking model with high detail on the chassis and cab.  It is highly recommended.
