Comment on this model.
This model comprises of two MAN heavy duty tractors, a MAN
TGX XXL and a MAN TGA XXL, combined with 20 lines of Scheuerle
InterCombi modules loaded with a heavy industrial component.
It is in the colours of
Bohnet, the specialist German heavy transport company
which has a history going back 50 years.
Packaging
The packaging is a high quality Tii-branded presentation
box with the model parts held within black foam rubber,
and the whole box was shrink-wrapped and delivered in an
outer layer of packaging.
There were no missing parts on
the review model. The screws for the drawbar
steering rod were a loose fit probably because the eyes
in the rod were too large and the pins for locking the
drawbars steering were a little too fat so thinner pins
from the model were used to get an acceptable result.
A colour instruction sheet provides the main assembly
details for the model. There is no information about the real tractors, trailer
or load.
Detail
The MAN tractors have similar characteristics but they are
not the same with each one having bespoke details such as and type differences
and number plates, and this extends to the cab interiors. The TGX is the
lead-off tractor.
The chassis detail underneath is very good with drive shafts,
differentials and suspension modelled, and the gearbox is
rendered in silver. The tyres have different treads on the
front and rear axle pairs, and are mounted on detailed wheels
with smart trims which are different on the two tractors.
The cabs are fully detailed with windscreen wipers and orange
beacon lights. The TGX has colour coded door mirrors.
Inside the details include nice moulded seats and MAN is
printed on the steering wheel. Under the cabs each
tractor has a detailed engine with 'Common Rail' written
in tiny text.
Behind the cabs, the equipment towers are different.
Each is very detailed with various tanks and a fan on top
which is covered by a realistic mesh screen. Coiled
lines are provided.
Diamond plated surfacing extends to the fifth wheel, and
plastic wheel arches cover the rear three axles. At
the back, the lights have plastic lenses.
Each tractor has a simple metal ballast box with a
realistically shaped
plastic tarpaulin cover bearing the Bohnet name.
The trailer is made up of six Scheuerle modules totaling
20 axle lines.
There are 5-line, 4-line, 3-line and 2-line units and they
are from the standard WSI Scheuerle range. Underneath
the modules there are intricate hydraulic lines joining
the tanks. The wheels are nice and the structure of
the trailers is modelled in an authentic way.
The steering linkages are metal and diamond plated metal
cover plates provide the protection. Detailing of
the module edges includes small graphics including maximum speed signs. Clip-on
light arrays can be added to the rear of the trailer.
Two drawbars are provided and each drawbar has two springs
which maintain a horizontal position when not attached to
a tractor.
A plastic generator unit and separate control console is
provided and they are both plastic and detailed. Also
included is a power pack and this is an excellent highly
detailed mainly metal part.
The load is a resin part which looks like part of a press
made by
SMS Meer. It has lifting points so could be
used as a load for a crane also and is a heavy part with graphics.
It rests on a couple of resin replica timber baulks.
Features
The tractors have linked steering which has a limited range
of movement.
The cabs tilt and can pose in a tilted position.
Drawbars can be attached at either end of the tractors using
pins in the towing hitches.
The tractors can be posed with or without the ballast boxes
and covers. Alternatively a conventional trailer can
be fixed to the tractors fifth wheel.
The Scheuerle modules have excellent independent suspension
and the steering works well. The steering is configurable by
adjusting the position of the metal steering bars, although
no information is provided on this aspect. The modules
connect using WSI's excellent locking system.
The power pack can be attached to the rear of a module so
self powered configurations can be posed. However
the model is designed to be set up in a full configuration
to represent a real transport. When set up it is an
impressive 104cm long.
Quality
This is a high quality special transport model with the
MAN and Scheuerle units being very detailed and well made.
The paintwork and graphics are of a very high standard.
Price
This is a large and impressive model and is relatively pricey
as a result.
Overall
This is a great model for anyone wanting a realistic heavy
transport configuration. It is a well made outstanding
model.
