| Comment on this model.
This model is a highly decorated tipping bulk trailer and is one of a series operated by the Austrian company Silo Melmer. The artwork celebrates the Tirolean valley of Pitztal and it is produced by Knud Tiroch.
Packaging
The packaging is a typical WSI branded box but with extra protection for the paintwork of the model.
There were no missing parts or defects on the review model.
There is no information provided about the real truck or model.
Detail
The Scania R420 chassis is excellent with the transmission and suspension modelled in metal and there is a full array of tanks and an exhaust system. The tyres have a different tread pattern front and rear and the brightly chromed wheels are detailed.
External cab detail includes air horns, mirrors and wipers and the lights have lenses. The cab artwork is very high quality and is applied really well, and the detail is topped off with the number plate and low noise sign.
Interior detail is good with the Scania logo on the back wall. Under the cab is a detailed engine with different coloured components.
Behind the cab there are coiled air lines and an anti-slip surface. The wheel arches are plastic and the light bar at the rear is highly detailed with individual lenses for the lights.
The overall impression of the trailer is that it is a top quality model. Looking underneath the axles have a detailed suspension with good tyres and wheels. Other parts of the structure including the storage box and spare wheel holder are finely represented in plastic. The metal chassis structure is good and side lights and wheel chocks add interest.
The tank decoration is another very fine piece of modelling artwork. It is very detailed and applied well given the complexity of some parts of the tank shape. The pipework and hoses are plastic but this has allowed some intricate detailing. The walkway on the top has a textured surface and the valves and hatches look convincing.
At the back the lights have plastic lenses and there are tiny side lights.
Features
The steering mechanism does not move far before fouling but it is possible to achieve a hard lock so interesting poses are possible.
The cab tilts forwards and can pose tilted.
The trailer has working suspension with each axle individually sprung.
The landing legs at the front can be lowered to support the trailer when disconnected from a tractor, and no unsightly screw threads are visible. Stabilisers at the rear can be lowered to provide stability during tipping.
The tank can be tipped to a reasonable angle and the cylinders will hold any pose.
The access ladder at the rear can be folded down.
Quality
This model is very high quality with plastic used appropriately.
The paintwork and graphics are generally excellent given their complexity.
Price
The model is reasonable value.
Overall
In terms of high quality artwork this model has an impressive act to follow in terms of the real truck and it succeeds. However the trailer is very well engineered too with good functionality. It is an outstanding model.
