Comment on this model.
This model pairs a DAF XF 105 SSC 4x2
Tractor with an extendible Flatbed Trailer. The
trailer manufacturer is not mentioned but the model
appears to be very similar to the previously released
WSI model of a
Dennison Trailer.
It is decorated in the colours of
Frank Wulf, a German transport company based in
Hamburg.
Packaging
The model comes in a WSI
branded box and is contained in an expanded
polystyrene tray and held with a clear
plastic lid.
There were no missing parts on the review model
but the cab faring was loose in the box. It was
easily refitted.
There is no information about the real vehicle, and no
instructions are supplied for the model. The only parts
to fit are the optional deck posts.
Detail
The tractor unit is a DAF XF 105
4x2 Super Space Cab. The modelling of the chassis is to a high
standard, with realistic suspension and transmission
elements and a nice exhaust system. The wheels are excellent with precise painting, and there are different tyres on the
steered and driven axles.
The cab has authentic detailing with number plates and
colour-coded door mirrors, and the interior is very good
too with DAF on the seats and steering wheel. The
livery is very attractive with high quality paintwork
and graphics.
A detailed engine is provided under the cab which bears
the PACCAR name.
Behind the cab there is a ladder, coiled air lines and diamond
non-slip surfacing. There are also a couple of
slightly crude-looking fire extinguisher boxes. At the
rear the lights have plastic lenses and
the graphics on the mud flaps are good.
Underneath, the trailer the modelling standard is high.
The structure is replicated very well, with hoses
running the length of the trailer. The suspension
detailing is very good and the wheels are finely
detailed. At the front, the landing legs have a
winding handle. The side bars ahead of the
wheels are plastic. At the rear the lights have
plastic lenses.
The trailer has a textured deck to represent the
hardwood of the original, and metal deck posts can be
installed if required. When the trailer is
extended, the truss structure is revealed. It has sections
that are thin and realistically
shaped. The central piston has a spring outside to
represent a coiled cable.
Features
The tractor has working steering with a reasonable range
of movement.
The cab tilts revealing the engine. If it is
tilted fully the tractor overbalances.
The trailer has spring-loaded suspension on
the axles, and the landing legs can be screwed up and
down, with the pistons having a smooth surface.
Extending the trailer is an easy operation and
it can be posed at any extension which mirrors the
incremental extension capability of the real trailer.
Fully extended the model is 19 inches / 48cm long.
Deck posts can be fitted if required although it can be
fiddly to get them to stand straight.
Quality
The
quality is very good with a high metal content and
plastic is used appropriately.
The paintwork and graphics are of a high standard.
Price
The model is good value
overall.
Overall
This is a nice looking model with the Frank Wulf livery
being striking. The functionality of the extending
trailer allows a variety of interesting poses.
