Comment on this model.

This truck is a Scania R6 Highline 8x2 Flatbed with a Fassi F800 Loader Crane.  The crane is rated at 72 tonne metres with a maximum lift of 22 tonnes.  Fassi is an Italian company founded in 1955.

The model is in the colours of the Scandinavian crane hire company Nordic.

Packaging

The box is a standard WSI style and inside the model is contained within a tray with a clear lid.

There were no defects or missing parts on the review model.

A generic instruction sheet is included which explains the features of the Fassi crane, and a card advises not tilting the cab due to the bull bar.  There is no information about the real truck.

Detail

The Scania chassis has a very good chassis with the 8x2 arrangement modelled including the gearbox.  The wheels are very detailed with different tyres on the steering and driven axles.

The cab looks very smart in the Nordic green colour scheme.  There is a beacon bar on the roof and the mirrors are colour coded.  The bull bar looks really good and there is a realistic number plate.

The deck has a high quality plastic replica timber part, and the clip on sideboards are nicely detailed in metal.

There are two-stage outrigger beams with metal pads, and they are positioned behind the rear axle.

At the back the lights look good and there are small graphics.  There is also a plastic clip-type towing hitch.  Separate deck posts are made of metal.  Small plastic pins are provided which fit into the deck and allow a container to be posed on the deck without sliding about.

The Fassi crane is very good.  The outriggers are three-stage, and the pistons are smooth, and small separate pads are supplied.  An additional set of small square spreader plates is also included for the front and rear outriggers.

The base section has a slewing motor complete with hydraulic hose, and there is a nice fuel tank.  There are lights on the lower boom sections and a winch which has thread hidden under a tape covering.

The boom sections appear to be thin-wall metal, and they certainly have a stiff profile whilst being smooth in operation.  The final boom section has a small fixed metal hook, and there is a lifting bar included.   A separate fly jib can be fitted although the modelling scale means the last sections are not telescopic.

Features

There is linked steering on the front axles and rear axle, although only a limited range of movement is possible.

The rear axle has some float to represent suspension although it also has sideways movement which is less helpful in rolling the model.

Separate deck sides or deck posts can be added as an alternative to any empty load deck.

The front outriggers can be stored in the upright position and can be telescoped out and rotated, and the piston lowered.  The rear outriggers can be extended and lowered.

The crane rotates fairly smoothly and the boom unfolds with the rams being stiff and 'jerky' to extend.  The boom has seven telescoping sections which extend well and generally hold a pose.

The maximum extended height is around 48cm, or 19 inches when using the fly jib.

The optional fly jib can be fitted, or left off.  A separate lifting beam is also included and this clips on to the headboard when not in use.

Quality

WSI has produced another high quality model with a high metal content.

The paintwork is very good and the Nordic and Fassi graphics are sharp.

Price

The model is reasonable value for a desirable limited edition.

Overall

WSI produce some excellent looking trucks and this is one of them, helped by the distinctive Nordic Crane colour scheme.  This is a highly functional, outstanding model.
