This truck is a Volvo FMX Day Cab 8x4 Flatbed with a Palfinger
PK78002 Loader Crane.
The model is in the colours of the French company
Mediaco.
Packaging
The box is the standard WSI type for a truck model.
There were no defects or missing parts on the review model.
A generic manual is included which explains the features
of the Palfinger crane. There is no information about
the real truck.
Detail
The Volvo chassis is an unusual 8x4 arrangement with the
rear axle having steering. All of the suspension transmission
parts. are modelled. The wheels have smart trims with
different tyres on the steering and driven axles.
The cab has beacon lights on the roof and very good grille
detailing together with a realistic number plate. The Mediaco
graphics and colour scheme is very attractive.
The deck is high quality with plastic replica timber in
part, and bolt hole details. Optional metal side boards
can be fitted. They are nicely detailed, although
one was very loose fitting on the review model.
There are two-stage outrigger beams at the front, although
they cannot be raised fully and sit too low in a transport
pose. Detailed circular pads are supplied separately.
being smooth in operation. The final boom section
has a small fixed metal hook.
Features
There is linked steering between the front axle and rear
axle, with a very limited range of movement possible.
The cab tilts and stays tilted at a good angle.
Separate deck posts can be added to the load deck.
Container locks can be used to position a shipping container.
The rear outriggers can be stored in the upright position
and can be telescoped out and rotated, and the piston lowered.
The rear outriggers can be extended and lowered. However
they do not raise enough for a realistic transport pose.
The crane rotates smoothly and the boom unfolds with the
rams having a good stiffness.
Quality
This model is well made with a high metal content.
The paintwork is very good and the graphics are sharp.
However there was some poor quality paintwork underneath
the model, but not in a visible position.
Price
The model is reasonable value.
Overall
The Mediaco livery is a collectible colour scheme and this
truck goes well with other Mediaco models. It has a functional
loader crane, although the front outriggers need a fix to
allow them to be raised higher in transport mode.
It poses well with loads on the deck.
Footnotes
The model first appeared in January 2019.
