This truck is a
Volvo FH4 Globetrotter 8x2 Flatbed
with a Palfinger PK 92002 with Jib Loader Crane.
The model is in the colours
of the German company
Weiland.
Packaging
The box is a standard WSI style and inside the model is
contained within a tray with a clear lid.
There were no defects or missing parts on the review
model.
A generic manual is included which explains
the features of the Palfinger crane. There is no information
about the real truck.
Detail
The
Volvo chassis is an 8x2 arrangement and it is fully
detailed with suspension and transmission parts.
The detailed wheels have different tyres on the
driven and non-driven axles.
The cab
has stub aerials, beacon lights and a light bar on the
roof. At the front the grille looks great and there is a
box with a non-functioning front outrigger. There
are coloured mirrors
and the graphics on the cab are very sharp. There
is a realistic number plate.
The deck
is high quality with plastic replica timber in part, and
metal side boards are included which are nicely
decorated. The headboard is also patterned and the
rear board has the Weiland name.
There are outrigger beams with metal pads, and
they are positioned behind the rear axles. On the
review model only a single stage was working although it
appears they are two stage inside the outrigger box.
Sadly, the pistons cannot be posed fully retracted.
At the back the lights look good and there
is a number plate.
Small plastic container locks are provided which fit into the deck
and allow a container to be posed on the deck without
sliding about.
Also included are deck posts which can be fitted and
mostly stay in a straight pose.
The Palfinger crane is a very nice piece of modelling.
The outriggers are two-stage, and the pistons are
smooth. A set of small spreader plates is also
included for the front and rear outriggers.
The base section has a nice fuel tank and tiny graphics
add to the realistic appearance.
The
boom sections appear to be thin-wall
metal, and they have a stiff profile whilst
being smooth in
operation. The final boom section has a small
fixed metal hook.
A separate fly jib can be fitted although the modelling
scale means the last sections are not telescopic.
Features
There is linked steering on the front axles, although the range of movement is
small.
The rear axle can be clipped up out of service.
The cab tilts and stays tilted at a good angle.
Side boards can be fitted to the deck but they are very
loose fitting, and need some attention to pose them
properly.
Separate deck posts can be added to the load deck.
Container locks can be used to position a shipping
container.
The front outriggers can be stored in the upright position
and can be telescoped out and rotated, and the piston
lowered. The rear outriggers can be extended and
lowered.
The crane rotates smoothly and the boom unfolds
with the rams having a decent stiffness, although the
boom will bleed down under long extensions, or with
loads. Pins can be inserted in the main boom rams
to lock an extension.
The optional fly jib can be fitted, or left off.
Quality
This model is well made with a high metal content.
The paintwork
is very good and the graphics are
sharp.
Price
The model is reasonable value.
Overall
This is an attractive limited edition
model which would go well with other models in Weiland
colours. As usual, the Palfinger loader crane is an
impressive piece of model engineering.
