Falkom BV is a Dutch manufacturer of towing and
recovery equipment.
The truck is a Scania R Highline on a 8x4 chassis.
It is in the colours of the Swedish company Dalarna.
Packaging
It comes in a typical WSI-branded windowed box with the
model held in a clear plastic insert and lid
inside an expanded polystyrene tray.
There were no defects or missing parts on the review
model.
An instruction sheet advises not to tilt the cab because
of the bull bar. A number of small parts are provided in a
separate bag and it is not obvious where they all go.
There is no information about the real vehicle.
Detail
The chassis has fully detailed steering, transmission
and suspension mostly modelled in metal. The
detailed wheels have different tyres on the steering and non-steering axles.
The highlighted wheel hubs are attractive.
The cab
has lights and horns on the roof, and two Michelin men.
At the front there is an impressive bull bar and there
is also a realistic number plate. There are graphics in
the side windows.
The sides of the body are metal and the panel doors are
detailed within the casting, and the panel handles are
nicely detailed too. The applied graphics are
sharp.
The wheel arches have attractive silver rims.
At the rear the light clusters are formed by graphics.
The recovery winches are mounted on a metal beam and
plastic hooks hang from the end of a plastic extension
boom. The hydraulic rams have hoses leading to
them. A wheel lift bolts and pins to the lift
frame.
A small folding plastic towing hitch attaches at the
rear and there are twin grippers.
Features
The Scania has very stiff linked steering on the front two axles and the range of movement is
small.
The cab does not tilt because the bull bar is fixed.
The lifting frame elevates and the two hydraulic
cylinders are still enough to hold a pose and support a
vehicle on the lift and tow frame.
The winches can be turned by finger and have enough
friction to not spin freely.
The winch boom extends.
The wheel lift frame can be attached or detached and
when mounted it has its own extendible boom.
The grippers can be lowered but the range of movement is
restricted to the level of the bottom of the tyres.
The towing hitch can be rotated but it is not a good fit
into its final position due to the scaling and
orientation of the parts. It is not usable as a
towing hitch.
Quality
This model has a high metal content.
The paintwork is very good with many very small graphics.
Price
The model is reasonable value for money.
Overall
Heavy recovery vehicles are interesting models and this
one is attractive in Dalarna colours.
Footnotes
The model appeared in June 2020.
