Comment on this model.
This model is a Mercedes-Benz Actros MP4 GigaSpace
Tractor with a Schmitz Refrigerated Trailer. It is in the colours of Europe Flyer, a Dutch company.
Packaging
The packaging is a typical WSI branded box with the
model sitting in an expanded polystyrene tray.
There were no missing parts or defects on the review
model.
There is no information provided about the real truck
or model.
Detail
The Actros chassis is a 4x2 and the
transmission and suspension are highly detailed and modelled in metal.
Also the gearbox, exhaust system, and tanks look
convincing.
The tyres have different tread patterns front and rear
and the wheels look really good in this colour scheme.
The cab has aerodynamic faring, with small aerials on
the roof. The colour-coded door mirrors and distinctive
grille stand out, and the lights look good too. A
realistic number plate adds detail, and the cab artwork
is very high quality.
Interior detail is good with a two tone colour
scheme, and the Mercedes logo on the steering wheel.
Behind the cab there are coiled air lines and the wheel arches are plastic.
The light bar at the rear is highly detailed with
individual lenses for the lights and there is a
realistic number plate front and rear.
The trailer is heavy as it is mostly metal with the
exception of the blue boxes underneath. The axle
assemblies are modelled well with nice wheels and the
landing legs are detailed with a fine winding handle.
At the front the Thermo King refrigeration unit is
modelled well with connection points for airlines from
the tractor provided underneath. The graphics on the
sides are very sharp and clear.
At the rear the door bolts and hinges are nicely
highlighted although the paintwork was not quite
perfect. The lights have plastic lenses, and there are
tiny side lights.
Features
The
Actros steering achieves a reasonable angle so interesting
poses are possible.
The cab tilts to reveal the engine but it is difficult
to maintain a tilted pose.
The trailer has working suspension with each axle
individually sprung.
The landing legs at the front can be lowered to support
the trailer when disconnected from a tractor, and no
unsightly screw threads are visible.
Quality
This model is very high quality with limited plastic.
The paintwork and graphics are very good.
Price
The model is reasonable value.
Overall
WSI has produced a convincing model of the Actros MP4
GigaSpace cab, and it looks attractive in the Europe
Flyer livery. It is good the steering on the
tractor has a decent range, although the cab was
reluctant to stay tilted. Opening doors would have
been a nice feature but overall it is easy to highly
recommend.
Footnotes
The model appeared in June 2014.
