Comment on this model.

This is a model of a DAF XF Super Space Cab 6x2 tractor with a Broshuis 4-axle semi low loader.  It is in the colours of Smiths of Bury, a company based in Northern England.  The real trailer is a Faymonville.

The model is a limited edition and has been commissioned by Maguires Models.

Packaging

The model comes in a WSI Models branded box which has a window allowing the model to be seen.

There were no missing parts or defects on the review model.

There is no information provided about the model although a numbered Collector Card is included which has a unique number within the production run of 200 models.  There are quite a few parts supplied for the trailer.

Detail

The tractor is a DAF XF Super Space Cab 6x2 unit and it has excellent paintwork and graphics.

The chassis is detailed, with the suspension and transmission details modelled.  The wheel hubs are excellent, and there are different tyre tread patterns on the driven axle.

At the front the cab has very good detailing, and the lights have either lenses or jewels.  The mirrors are colour-coded and there are a couple of beacon lights on the roof.  An authentic number plate and STO plate is used.  Behind the cab, there are coiled lines, and a very nice storage tower.  Plastic wheel arches cover the rear wheels and the rear lights have individual plastic lenses.

The trailer is also highly detailed.  Underneath, the structure of the trailer is modelled well, with the axles having the suspension fully represented, and there are hoses running to each wheel.  At the front there are a couple of landing legs.  Rear legs for the loading ramps are modelled but are not functional.

The surface of the trailer is very good with the screw holes modelled in the replica timber deck.  Details along the edges of the trailer include a yellow visibility stripe and the Broshuis logo.  On one side there is a control console box.

At the rear the lights are good and there is a number plate.

The gooseneck has a tool box and on the front is a spare wheel.  Sides for a storage box are metal.

A separate pack of metal deck posts is provided and also a support beam. The trailer width can be extended with boards and there are also parts for securing a container.

A pair of width markers attaches at the rear end of the trailer if required, and a couple of pull-out ones are stowed under the gooseneck.

Features

The DAF has a steerable axle with reasonable movement.  The rear axle does not roll smoothly because of snagging on the wheel arch.

The cab tilts to reveal a detailed engine underneath.

The trailer has plenty of features.  All the axles have effective working suspension with good movement, and the rear two axles are linked with self-steering and can adopt a reasonable angle.

At the front the landing legs can be screwed down, and the marker boards stowed under the gooseneck can be slid into position.

The trailer bed can be extended to almost double its length.  For wider loads the trailer has a load floor width adjustment and this works with tiny extension beams which can be pulled out and then replica timber beams can be laid between them.

Other configuration options are provided by fitting or omitting the deck posts, and the same goes for the gooseneck storage.  Locks for attaching shipping containers are also supplied, as is a transverse support beam.

Separate plastic loading ramps can be stored at the rear or can be placed to simulate loading.  Loading plates for the gooseneck are also included.

Quality

This is a high quality model with a high metal content.

The paintwork and graphics are of a very high standard, particularly on the DAF.

Price

The model is reasonable value as a limited edition.

Overall

Maquires Models have commissioned another very good looking model of a truck from a British haulier.  The flexible Broshuis trailer also provides many display options even though there is a compromise in that the real trailer is a Faymonville.

Footnotes

The model appeared in June 2016.  It was made in a run of 200 models.
