This is a model of a Scania R730 6x4 tractor with a Broshuis 4-axle semi low
loader.
The model is in the colours of
Gordon Gilder, an English transport company first
established in 1953.
This model was commissioned by Maquires Models in a run
of 170 models.
Packaging
The model comes in a WSI Models branded box
which has a window allowing the model to be seen.
There were no missing parts on the review model. One
part was loose in the box and was easily refixed with
super glue.
There are quite a few parts supplied
for the trailer, but no instructions. A uniquely
numbered Collector Card is incuded.
Detail
The tractor is a Scania R730 6x4 unit. It has the usual very detailed chassis, with
the suspension and transmission modelled. The
wheels are smart, and there are different tyre
tread patterns on the driven and steering axles.
At the front there are two rows of lights, and
there is a realistic number plate. There are beacon lights on
the roof. Behind the cab, there are equipment
boxes, coiled lines, and
plastic wheel arches cover
the rear wheels.
The Gordon Gilder graphics are sharp and the colour
scheme is attractive.
The trailer is highly detailed. Underneath, the structure
of the trailer is modelled well, with the axles having the suspension fully represented,
and there are hoses running to each wheel. At the front
there are a couple of landing legs. Rear legs for
the loading ramps are modelled but are not functional.
The surface of the trailer is very good with the screw holes modelled
in the replica timber deck. Details along the edges of
the trailer include the Broshuis logo.
On one side there is a control console box.
At the rear the lights are good and there is a number
plate. The ramps are very nicely modelled with
realistic chains.
A separate
pack of metal deck posts is provided and also a support
beam. The trailer width can be extended with boards
and there are also parts for securing a container.
A pair
of width markers attaches at the rear end of the trailer
if required, and a couple of pull-out ones are stowed under
the gooseneck.
Features
The Scania has a steerable axle with limited movement.
The model rolls well.
The cab tilts and maintains a tilted
pose.
The trailer has plenty of features. All the axles have
effective working suspension with good movement, and the
rear two axles are linked with self-steering and can
adopt a reasonable angle.
The loading ramps lower smoothly.
At the front the landing legs can be screwed
down, and the marker boards stowed under the gooseneck
can be pulled out
into position.
The trailer bed can be extended to almost double its length. For wider loads
the trailer has a load floor width adjustment and this works
with tiny extension beams which can be pulled out and
then replica timber beams can be laid between them.
Other configuration options are provided by fitting or omitting
the deck posts. Locks for attaching shipping containers
are also supplied, as is a transverse support beam.
Loading
plates for the gooseneck are also included.
Quality
This is a
another high quality model with a high metal content.
The paintwork and
Gordon Gilder graphics are convincing.
Price
The model is reasonable value.
Overall
It is nice to see another exclusive limited edition
model and this one is well presented by Maguires
Models with a unique collector card. The model looks
very attractive when posed with a suitable load.
Footnotes
The model appeared in November 2017 in a limited edition
of 170.
