The Liebherr R 9150 B Mining Excavator has an operating
weight of 130 tonnes and is designed for use with mining
trucks in the 50 - 135 tonne range.
Packaging
The model comes in a large standard Liebherr box design with
the model held within two separate expanded polystyrene
trays and protected with clear plastic sheets.
There were no missing parts or defects on the review
model, other than a tiny handrail which was separated
during shipping and was easily refixed.
There is no information about the real machine
or model.
Detail
The undercarriage has branding on the base plate and
there is some panel detailing under the body of the
machine.
The track
frames are detailed and there are working rollers on top
with solid non-functioning rollers on the bottom.
The drive sprockets appear to be metal, and there
is an excellent access ladder with textured steps and
tiny thin handrails. The metal tracks are nicely
formed and equate in scale to a 750mm width on the real
machine.
The cab is metal with a plastic windscreen guard and
mirrors. Lights and window seals are detailed
well, and Liebherr can be seen printed on the seat back
through the tinted windows.
Outside
the cab the walkways have an excellent mesh flooring and
the handrails are metal. Steps also have coloured
edging. Moving around the body the panels are well
defined in the casting and there are many small graphics
adding to the detail.
The counterweight has the Liebherr name embossed and on
top there is a video camera and highlighted lifting
eyes.
The engine compartment has a cover with excellent mesh
grilles at the rear, and there are nice twin exhausts.
Air intakes sit on top.
In front of the engine compartment the detailing is
excellent with a mesh floor, small graphics and many
hydraulic hoses. There is also an excellent fan
enclosure.
The boom is an impressive piece of modelling. The
hydraulic rams have hydraulic connections and the hoses
and pipework are first rate. Lifting eye positions
are marked, and the lights have tiny protective grilles.
The stick is of the same high standard, and all of the
connection pins look realistic.
The large bucket is eye catching with its large white
teeth which are formed really well. But there is
small detailing as well including tiny graphics.
Features
The tracks can roll easily, and work well on a rough surface. They are tensioned by spring-loaded idlers.
The body rotates smoothly without any stickiness or
rocking.
The movement of the boom and stick has a very good range
overall. The bucket movement is excellent.
The model cannot be configured for transport in any way,
and the bucket is not removeable.
Quality
This model has a very high metal content and is very well
made and robust.
The paintwork and graphics are generally excellent.
Price
It is good value.
Overall
This is an excellent mining model from WSI. Its
major strength is the detailing and the quality feel.
The features perform well and the only thing it would
have been nice to see is the ability to reduce the model
into transport loads and have a removable bucket.
Footnotes
The model first appeared as a prototype at the
Nuremberg Toy Fair in 2018, and was released at the Bauma Exhibition in
2019.
