This truck is a Volvo
FH5 Globetrotter + Palfinger PK 135.002 TEC 7 + Jib.
The loader crane is rated at 109 tonne metres with a
maximum lift of 30 tonnes.
The model is generic and therefore does not have number
plates.
Packaging
The box is
Palfinger branded and is in the standard WSI style.
Inside the model is contained within a tray with a clear lid.
There were no missing parts on the review model.
A small box was loose out of the box and
was easily fixed back.
A generic instruction booklet is included which
explains the features of the Palfinger crane. There is no information
about the real truck.
Detail
The chassis is an 8x4 arrangement and it is modelled
in detail including the gearbox. The wheels are decorated with different tyres on the
steering and driven axles.
The cab has air horns and
a light bar on the roof and the mirrors are colour-coded. The cab is decorated
nicely and looks attractive. At the front the grille is
formed very well and there is a box which is for the
front outrigger.
The load box is metal with details within the casting on
the sides.
There are two-stage outrigger beams with metal pads, and
they are positioned behind the rear axle. The
pistons cannot be fully retracted, which detracts from
the appearance in transport mode.
At the back the lights look good and there are small
graphics. There is
also a towing hitch with pin.
The Palfinger crane is very impressive.
The outriggers are two-stage, and the pistons are
smooth. The base section is detailed with many
tiny graphics. There is a non-functioning winch on the
main boom. It has a visible hinge when folded back
which would have looked better in black.
The
boom sections appear to be thin-wall
metal, and they certainly have a stiff profile whilst
being smooth in
operation. The final boom section has a small
fixed metal hook.
A separate fly jib can be fitted although the modelling
scale means the last sections are not telescopic.
Small square spreader plates are also
included for the outriggers.
Features
The steering axles are linked with a limited range of
movement.
The pin in the rear towing hitch is removable.
The fifth wheel position is adjustable.
The load box can be added, or left off.
The cab tilts to reveal a detailed engine.
The front outriggers have one stored in the upright position
and can be telescoped out and rotated, and the piston
lowered. The other does not require rotation. The rear outriggers can be extended and
lowered.
There is also a front outrigger with a limited range of
extension. The outriggers cannot support the model
wheels-free.
The crane rotates smoothly and the boom unfolds with the
rams being stiff in most extensions. The boom has many telescoping sections
which extend well and generally hold a pose.
There is a winch mounted on the main boom which is
hinged and can be rotated to the side.
The optional fly jib can be fitted, or left off.
It has an adjustable angle, and telescopic sections.
Quality
This model is well made with a high metal content.
The paintwork is very good with excellent graphics.
Price
The model is reasonable value.
Overall
This
model has been produced to support Palfinger's marketing
effort. As such the truck is generic rather than
reflecting a truck from a real fleet. However, it
looks really good and the detailing and features are to
a high standard.
