Comment on this model.

This model is a Scania 140 with a 3-axle Floor brick trailer fitted with a Hulo loader crane.

It is in the colours of Croonen, a Dutch company.

Packaging

The model comes in a WSI branded box and is contained in an expanded polystyrene tray with a plastic lid.

There were no defects or missing parts on the review model.

There is no information about Croonen or the real vehicle, and no instructions are supplied for the model.  A few parts need to be assembled on the trailer.

Detail

The tractor unit is a Scania 140 6x2 unit.  The chassis is very good with the transmission and suspension detailed in metal,  The rear axle is very detailed with the lift mechanism fully modelled.  The engine and gearbox are coloured, and the exhaust system looks good too.  The tyres have  differing tread patterns on different axles and they are mounted on detailed wheels.

The cab has some nicely rendered graphics and a number plate.  At the top the roof light and visor are solid, and the Scania grille and lights look very good.

Rubber mud flaps are fitted behind the front wheels, and under the cab is a detailed engine.

Behind the cab there are coiled air lines and a diamond plated walkway leads to the fifth wheel area.  The fuel tanks are modelled in detail.  At the back the rear light clusters have nice plastic lenses.

The trailer is very detailed underneath and hoses run from the front to the small tank at the mid point.  The axles are detailed with the large spring on the twin axle rather standing out because it is silver.  There are a couple of landing legs with tiny rollers and handles, and a spare wheel.

The surface of the trailer is high quality with a good representation of a timber surface, and the side panels are painted really well, with each side modelled as one piece rather than separate panels as a modelling compromise.  At the rear the lights are good and the Floor name is on the mud flaps.  A length of wire is supplied to act as a cable to power the crane and it fits into holes at the rear.

The Hulo crane is modelled in metal and is very good.  The structural elements are finely cast, and there is some excellent detail including the Hulo name in small graphics.

Features

The steering on the Scania turns to a reasonable amount.  The rear axle can lift out of service as it can oscillate with the drive axle, and the height of lift is very good.

The cab tilts to reveal the engine, and can stay tilted.

The trailer is fully featured.  All the axles have effective working suspension with good movement, and the rear axle steers by a mechanical linkage to the fifth wheel.

The landing legs can be screwed down revealing smooth pistons.

The sides of the trailer can be lowered, and the rear panel can be removed and extension tracks for the crane folded out.

The Hulo crane can travel along the deck.  The arm rotates and the trolley can be positioned along the beam by hand.  Amazingly it includes a working winch which can be operated using the supplied key.

The look of the model can be enhanced by using a set of 'Hulo-stacked' bricks which are available as a separate accessory.  A single stack does not fit perfectly into the lifting frame but it is good enough.

Quality

This is a very high quality model with a high metal content.

The paintwork and graphics are very good.

Price

It is very good value overall.

Overall

A lot of care has been put into this model of a classic truck, and the result is an excellent model with high functionality.  It is outstanding.

Footnotes

It first appeared in Croonen colours in May 2014.  The brick accessory pack to suit this model is WSI part number 12-1023.
