Mammoet, the Dutch lifting and heavy haulage specialist.
Packaging
The model comes in a Mammoet branded box.
Inside the model is held within stiff black foam.
There were no defects or missing parts on the review
model.
Included with the model is a Mammoet collector card with a
unique serial number in the run of 500 models.
There is no information provided about the real truck
and no instructions for the model. There are a
number of small parts and some instructions would assist
an inexperienced collector.
Detail
The Scania is big 8x4 truck, and it can be fitted with a
fifth tag axle. The transmission and suspension is
detailed. The wheels are very detailed with different
tyres on the steering and non-steering axles.
The cab looks smart in Mammoet colours. It has a beacon
light bar on the roof. At the front there is a 'Bred
last' sign which translates as wide load. The cab
interior is fairly plain but under the cab is a detailed
engine. The cabinet behind the cab is entirely plastic
but coiled lines and grabrails are modelled. Anti-slip
surfacing covers the chassis, and at the back the lights
have plastic lenses and there is a number plate. The
optional tag axle is similarly detailed.
The trailer is made up of two modules, a gooseneck and
vessel bed beams.
The gooseneck is a metal part with some very good
details including banks of hoses and tiny graphics. Two boxes sit in the load storage area, and two
spare wheels are at the front.
The modules consist of a 4-line unit and a 6-line unit. The wheels are nice and the
structure of the trailers is modelled in an authentic
way. The steering linkages are metal and diamond plated
metal cover plates provide the protection.
Detailing of the module edges includes maximum speed signs
and yellow stripes. Clip-on
light arrays can be added to the rear of the trailer.
The cable reel is a plastic or resin part. The end
cheeks are perforated and the cable on the drum has a
good texture. Plastic support brackets are
provided.
Features
The Scania has linked steering at the front. However
only a small range of movement is possible. The tag axle
can be fitted or left off, and it features steering
which works well.
The cab tilts forward to about 45° and can pose in the
tilted position.
The fifth wheel has a large range of longitudinal
movement which is needed to provide clearance of the
gooseneck from the tag axle.
The gooseneck connects to the other components using
the sliding locking pin system. Two supports are
provided which can be used when the gooseneck is not
connected to a tractor.
The modules have excellent independent suspension and
the steering is proportional.
The bed can be extended for both length and width, and
optional loading ramps can be fitted. Also
included are some pivoting supports for alternative
vessel loads.
The cable reel can be posed on the trailer or
separately.
Quality
This is well presented high quality special transport
model which is well made.
The paintwork and graphics are of a high standard.
Price
It is moderate value for a limited edition.
Overall
This is another impressive heavy haulage model from WSI.
It is long when configured and it is well engineered
with a high level of detail.
Footnotes
The model first appeared in October 2024 and was made in
