Comment on this model.
This review is of a DAF XF 95 SC 4x2
Tractor with a 3-axle Floor brick trailer fitted with a
Kennis roll loader crane.
It is in the colours of
Henken,
a Dutch specialist paving company which has a fleet of
brick carriers.
Packaging
The model comes in a WSI
branded box and is contained in an expanded
polystyrene tray with a plastic lid.
There were no defects or missing parts on the review
model.
There is no information about Henken or the real
vehicle, and no instructions are supplied for the model.
Detail
The tractor unit is a DAF XF 95 Space Cab 4x2 unit.
The chassis is very good with the transmission and suspension
detailed in metal, and the exhaust system looks the part
too. The tyres
have a differing tread pattern on the front and rear
wheels and they are mounted on detailed
wheels.
The cab appears to be a good
rendition of the Henken livery with a realistic number plate. The door mirrors
are colour coded in white although the passenger side
mirror appears upside down compared to the real truck.
The cab roof also has spot
lights, air horns and good quality orange beacon
lights. Inside the cab, the detail level is good.
The standard of the graphics on the cab is high with the
Henken
logo rendered well. Under the cab is a detailed engine.
Behind the cab there are air lines which with care can
be posed fixed to the trailer. A diamond plated walkway
leads to the fifth wheel area. At the back the rear light clusters have nice plastic lenses.
The trailer has a highly detailed and interesting structure
underneath and hoses run from the front to back although
some of the gluing was a little untidy on the review
model. The
axles are fully detailed with the suspension
modelled and decent tyres and wheels.
There are a couple of landing legs and a spare wheel.
The surface of the trailer is high quality with an
excellent representation of a timber surface with inlaid
roll loader tracks. At the rear
the lights look convincing. The trailer sides are
metal.
The Kennis roll loader is a type 14.000 and is nicely
modelled. There are a number of plastic elements on the
body such as the operator's seat but the detail is very
good. Very good graphics are applied to the loader arm
and flexible hoses run to the grab. It is mainly metal
although some large unpainted rivets spoil the look a
little.
Features
The steering on the DAF tractor turns to a very limited
degree.
The cab tilts fully forward revealing the engine.
The trailer has many features. All the axles have
effective working suspension with good movement, and the
rear two axles turn proportionally to a decent angle.
The first axle can be raised and clipped out of service.
At the front the landing legs can be screwed down
revealing smooth pistons.
The Kennis crane rotates and there is reasonable
movement of the loader arm. The grab opens and
closes, although it is a tight fit on
WSI's brick pallet
accessory.
Quality
The metal content is high as is the overall quality,
with only some poor gluing on the review model detracting a little.
The paintwork and graphics are of a high standard.
Price
It is good value overall.
Overall
This is an interesting functional model and looks good
if loaded with WSI's brick pallets which are available
separately. It is easy to highly recommend.
