Comment on this model.
This model is a highly decorated truck operated by
Kattilavaaras Akeri which has been successful in show
truck competitions. It is a Volvo FH 2 Globetrotter XL
and Box Trailer. The truck is named 'Whisper from
North'.
Packaging
The packaging is a typical WSI branded box with the
model sitting in an expanded polystyrene tray.
There were no missing parts or defects on the review
model.
There is no information provided about the real truck
and a small leaflet is included to advise that the cab
should not be tilted as otherwise the bull bar will
break.
Detail
The Volvo chassis is a 6x2 and is up to the usual high
standards for a WSI tractor. The
transmission and suspension are modelled in metal and there
are shiny squared tanks.
The tyres have different tread patterns as appropriate
to the axles they are on
and the brightly chromed wheels are detailed.
The roof has air horns and a detailed light bar, and the
mirrors on the doors have graphics. All of the cab artwork
is very high quality including graphics on the windows.
The bull bar on the front is nicely modelled.
Interior detail is good and it has a two tone colour
scheme.
Behind the cab there are coiled air lines and the wheel arches are plastic.
The light bar at the rear is highly detailed with
individual lenses for the lights and there is a
realistic number plate front and rear.
The trailer is heavy as it is mostly metal.
Underneath the trailer structure is modelled and the
link of the rear axle steering to the fifth wheel
connection is visible but non-functioning.
The side skirts have lights and graphics and the artwork
on the box sides is excellent. It is very sharp
and clear, as it is at the front too.
At the rear the door bolts and hinges are nicely
highlighted and the lights have plastic lenses, and there are
tiny side lights.
Features
The
steering mechanism does not move far before fouling but
it is possible to achieve a reasonably hard lock so interesting
poses are possible.
The trailer has working suspension with each axle
individually sprung.
The rear axle steers and a good angle can be achieved.
The landing legs at the front can be lowered to support
the trailer when disconnected from a tractor, and no
unsightly screw threads are visible.
Quality
This model is very high quality with limited plastic.
The paintwork and graphics have an excellent finish.
Price
The model is reasonable value for the high quality.
Overall
As a show truck the real vehicle sets a modelling
challenge in terms of the artwork and WSI has achieved
success in producing an
outstanding model.
Footnotes
The model appeared in January 2013.
