The NZG model of the
Liebherr LTM11200-9.1
Mobile Crane is one of the best crane models reviewed
by Cranes Etc in 2010. However, one of the few weaknesses
of the model is the plastic hydraulic cylinders. Although
they function perfectly well, the choice of material and
colour means that they look different to the rest of the
model. This kit from YCC provides metal cylinders
to replace those supplied by NZG on the lattice mast jib.
The reviewed parts are painted by YCC in Liebherr yellow.
Packaging
The kit comes in a small zip plastic bag with the cylinders
wrapped in cling film. It includes a small Allen key
for use in locking the rams at any given extension.
No instructions are provided, and fortunately installation
is straightforward. The plastic parts are held in
place by friction rivets at the ram end and these can be
popped out by applying significant force to the inside end
of the rivet. At the jacket end, conventional rivets
are used and these have to be drilled out. Fixing
the new cylinders is easy, and at the ram end just involves
reinserting the rivets and carefully using pliers to push
them back in position. At the jacket end supplied
new pins are inserted.
Detail
and Features
The cylinders are simply detailed. The NZG cylinders
relied on friction and the YCC cylinders do the same but
use screws tightened by the Allen key to tighten the grip
on the cylinder ram. This means that when it is not
tightened the ram smoothly moves enabling the ram extension
to be set very easily.
Quality
and Price
These are high quality parts and the paint applied makes
them blend with the rest of the model well, and they are
a definite improvement. The parts are certainly not cheap, but
are very well made.
Overall
These parts from YCC enhance the basic NZG model and it
looks better as a result. These are parts for collectors
that are interested in owning the best models and they are
highly recommended.
Footnotes
The kit has also been produced in an unpainted version,
and in Mammoet colours.
