Conrad 40141 - Sennebogen HPC 40 Mobile Crane
Model Review March 2006

Features

Considering the truck first, the front pair of axles are linked together for steering. A reasonable hard lock can be obtained although at the extreme the second axle fouls the bodywork.  As with most Conrad trucks the cab tilts and the engine can be seen.  The outriggers extend and can be screwed down.

All the usual crane functions can be carried out. In addition one of the counterweight slabs can be detached if required and carried on truck deck.

The fly jib has a good mechanism to allow it to be set at an offset angle to the main boom with two fixed offsets available.  It is also possible to vary the offset at any angle but this relies on friction within the mechanism to maintain the chosen angle.

Quality

The model is made to the usual Conrad standards with good quality casting and details. The paintwork and lettering are also of a good standard.

Overall

This is a simple and pleasing model which has been produced to a good standard. Although it does not offer anything new in terms of detailing or features, it can be displayed in a variety of poses and is worthwhile and unusual addition a collection of mobile cranes.
