The Liebherr 195 HC-LH 6/12 is a tower crane with a hydraulic luffing jib.  It can have a maximum jib radius of 55m and a maximum load capacity of 12 tonnes.

Packaging

The model comes in a high quality Liebherr branded box covered by a picture sleeve, with the parts held in foam rubber.

The review model had no defects or missing parts.

There is a detailed instruction manual for the model.  However, some of the steps are not in the right order, and not all parts are referenced. Assembly of the model is straightforward.

Detail

The cruciform base is modelled in metal although there is no  ladder access to the tower.  Four large ballast blocks are single pieces shaped like separate slabs and the Liebherr name is on each slab.

The triple-height tower sections are very good with clip fixings at each end.  Inside each section there are plastic ladders and platforms, and there are also operator's elevator rails.  However, the elevator is not modelled.

The slewing ring and tower top are modelled well, and it is all one piece with the top section of jib so it cannot be used as a transport load.  The hydraulic ram is a realistic looking part.

The cab deck has a realistic-looking cab and cabinet.  The handrails and platforms are metal parts with the handrails looking thick for the scale.

The short counter jib has a walkway and the counterweight is a single block.

The jib is profile is excellent and is made up of three pieces.  The lattice work is fine quality, although surprisingly there is only triangulation on the two sides reminiscent of much older models and this may have been a weight reduction compromise.  The short walkway from the tower top is a solid piece without texture. A trolley motor adds detail.  A plastic maintenance cage fits to the jib.

A metal hook block is provided with a single pulley. Plastic frames fit on each side.

A Liebherr branded slab is provided for use as a load.

Features

The crane rotates smoothly.

The jib luffs by adjusting a lock on the jacket top with a spanner.  This works well enough.

The hoist winch works by turning the protruding axle and it relies on friction as a brake.

The tower can be built in different heights, but the jib configuration is fixed, and most parts do not make realistic transport loads.

The hook block can be configured with the side frames in a parked mode.
Quality

This is a very good quality tower crane model, with a high metal content.

The paintwork is very good as are the few graphics.

Price

It is reasonable value overall.

Overall

This is a very good looking model only compromised from some angles by the hollow jib bottom.  It would have also been nice if the configuration possibilities were more flexible, including the use as transport loads.
