This model is of Mercedes-Benz Actros SLT BigSpace 8x4 GigaSpace with a Nooteboom 6-axle Ballast Trailer.

It comes in the colours of Demag, and is a companion to the Demag AC 700-9 Mobile Crane model.

Packaging

The model box comes in Demag branded outer sleeve.  The model box is high quality, with the model held within stiff black foam.

There were no defects or missing parts on the review model.

There is a small booklet which has interesting information about the real trailer, and it also describes the features of the trailer model.

Included is an alternative fifth wheel which will allow the tractor to accommodate trailers with a thicker king pin. Also included is a driver figure.

Detail

It has a detailed 8x4 chassis with detailed steering. The transmission components are modelled and the tyres are different on the steering and driven axles. The wheels are very detailed and the hubs are highlighted in blue.

The model has a unique serial number plate fixed underneath which is a better solution than a separate card which may get separated from the model.

The cab has aerials on the roof together with beacon lights. The Actros grille is very detailed.  The Demag graphics are very sharp.  There is a number plate holder but no number plate as this is a generic model.

Inside the cab tiny graphics are applied to the instrument cluster.

Behind the cab the big equipment tower has many parts. There are coiled lines and a nice grille on one side. Diamond plated surfaces are modelled between the wheel arches.

At the back the lights have plastic lenses.

A helmeted driver figure is included and he seems a little on the small side.

The ballast trailer chassis is detailed with the axle sets nicely modelled.  Twin tyres are mounted on detailed wheels, and the hydraulic steering system is modelled.  A stand out aspect of the detailing is the load floor with the aluminium beams represented really well, both top and bottom.

The deck edges have many tiny graphics.

At the back there is a beacon light and a number plate holder.

The container is metal and simply detailed.  It has sharp graphics and a door modelled at one end.  A metal headboard is also included and it has Demag graphics.

Under some lighting conditions the Demag paint colour on the model appears to be a very slightly different shade of yellow from that on the Demag AC 700/9 crane model.

Features

The Actros has linked steering on the front axles with a decent range of movement so some good poses can be displayed.

The cab has opening doors.  These work well, and open to a reasonable angle.

The driver can be inserted in the cab, or not used.

The trailer axles have sprung suspension which is very good, and the many wheels are grounded, particularly with a load on board.

There is steering on axle 1, and linked steering on 3-6 is very good and is proportional in nature.

The landing legs can be lowered and are locked in position with tiny pins.

The spare wheel holder opens, but the large hinge on the flap prevents the wheel being removed.

The model can be posed with either a metal headboard or container.

Quality

This is a very well presented high quality model with a high metal content.

The paint finish is very good, and the graphics are sharp.

Price

It is reasonable value for a limited edition.

Overall

This is an excellent companion truck to the Demag AC 700-9 crane model. It is a very well presented limited edition.
