The Mercedes Benz Titan is a large
tractor for heavy haulage applications. This version of
the model is in Goldhofer livery and is
intended to be paired with Goldhofer trailers such as
the XLE.
Packaging
The model is supplied in a Goldhofer branded windowed
box with the model held within good quality foam
rubber. The review model had a broken cab mirror which
was easily repaired with glue. It is a little odd that
this mirror is fixed to the model in a position where
it can easily be broken whereas the rest of the mirrors
are supplied as separate parts to be fitted.
There are small parts to fit and no instructions but it
is fairly obvious where they
go. The mirrors fitted well but the roof aerials
are too loose in their holes so need additional fixing
using plastic putty or glue.
There is no information about the real tractor.
Detail
The chassis detailing is good with the
representation of the suspension and
transmission being largely in plastic. The steering mechanism is
modelled for function rather than being accurate to the
real truck.
The wheel hubs are plastic and are a little different to
those often seen on the real truck, and the tyres
have a different tread pattern on the front and rear
wheels.
Detailing around the cab is pretty good although the
Actros name badge is not on the front (see Footnotes
below). Door mirrors are colour coded. An engine block
is modelled under the cab.
Behind the cab the equipment tower is plastic with
coiled air lines and some rather large looking wheel chocks.
The wheel arches are plastic and the rear light clusters
have lenses and there is no number plate.
Features
The front two axles have linked steering and the range
on the front axle is good, with the second
axle having proportionally less although it does foul
the wheel arch very quickly.
The cab tilts to reveal the engine but it does not stay
in a tilted position.
A removable ladder is provided which is stored under the
walkway behind the equipment tower.
Quality
The quality is quite good and although a lot of the
model is plastic it is not obvious.
The paintwork and graphics are of a good standard.
Price
The model is reasonably priced.
Overall
This is a good looking representation of a heavy
Mercedes Benz tractor although it is relatively light weight
due to the amount of plastic used. It is
recommended for use with Tekno Goldhofer trailers.
Footnotes
The model appeared in 2010. The Goldhofer version
of the Titan does not have an Actros badge at
Goldhofer's request. Other versions of this model
have the logo, and some also have a rear towing hitch.
