This is a model of a Scania R(5)
Highline tractor with a Nooteboom 3-axle
OSDS semi low-loader. The version of
the trailer modelled includes separate loading ramps.
The truck is in the colours of
Peter Mussche and Sons a Transport Company founded
over 30 years ago in Belgium. A feature of their
fleet is the highly decorated trucks.
Packaging
The model comes in a WSI branded box and it is contained within an
expanded polystyrene tray and held by clear plastic formers. There
were no missing parts or defects on the review model.
There is no information about the real tractor or trailer, and no
instructions for the model.
Detail
The tractor unit is a Scania
R-series Highline 6x2 and a feature of this model is the
intricate high quality decoration.
The detail on the chassis is of a high standard,
with the suspension and transmission elements reproduced
well. Detail on the wheel hubs is very good, and the
tyre tread patterns look convincing with different tyres
on the front and real axles.
The cab looks great with the variety of different lights
on the front and there is a number plate too.
There are beacons and air horns
on the roof. The graphics are excellent with many
fine details including the door mirrors and cab windows.
At the rear there is a very detailed graphic
representing the artwork found on the real trucks.
A detailed engine is modelled under the cab.
Behind the cab, the tanks are modelled well and there
are coiled air lines. At the back the lights
look authentic.
The trailer
is highly detailed.
Underneath, the structure of the trailer is modelled very
well and the axles have detailed suspension with hosing running to each wheel.
At the front a couple of landing legs with a winding
handle is nicely modelled, and there are width markers. The surface of the trailer
is top quality with an excellent representation of a timber
surface which has screw holes modelled, and the metal surfacing
is textured well.
Details along the edges of the trailer are really nice with
a yellow stripe and tiny tie down points
modelled within the casting. On one side there is a well detailed
control console. Plastic width extension boards
can be added.
The gooseneck has connectors for lines from the tractor,
and the deck includes the offset aluminium strip which
is present in the real trailer. A toolbox and head
and side
boards can be fitted.
Plastic trailer ramps can be added at the rear and a
couple of ramps are included to allow driven access up
on the gooseneck.
A separate pack of metal deck posts are provided and these
plug into holes in the deck edge and enough are provided
to use as an alternative to the headboard if required. A pair of
plastic width markers can be attached
at the rear end of the trailer.
Features
The tractor unit has
linked steering on the front axles but with limited range of movement.
The cab tilts smoothly and can pose tilted.
The trailer has
many features.
All the axles have effective working suspension which has
a good movement, and the rear axle is self-steering and
can adopt a very good angle. At the front the landing
legs can be screwed down, and the marker boards stowed under
the gooseneck can be slid into position. At the rear,
a couple of hinged support legs can be rotated down if required.
The trailer bed can be extended to almost double its
length, and there is a sliding cross beam too.
For wider loads the trailer has a load floor width adjustment
and this works with tiny extension consoles which can be
pulled out and then replica beams can be carefully laid between them.
The beams are numbered from A1 at the front to A6 at the
rear to facilitate correct positioning.
Other configuration options are provided by fitting or omitting
the deck posts, and the same goes for the headboard,
side boards and tool box.
The ramp plates for loading the gooseneck can also be added
or left off as desired, as can the rear width marker boards,
which can be stored under the gooseneck if not used.
Quality
This is a high quality detailed model with an
intelligent choice of materials.
The paintwork and graphics are of a very high standard,
particularly on the Scania tractor.
Price
The model is good value given the quality, features
and detail.
Overall
This type of model has been produced in many
configurations by WSI and this version is of a high
standard with the graphics applied to the Scania being
noteworthy. It is an outstanding model.
Footnotes
The model first appeared in December 2009 in
Nooteboom colours.
Many variants in different colours have been produced.
