| Comment on this model.
This is a model of a 6-axle Nooteboom ballast carrier designated the OVB-102-06 with super single tyres. The total capacity of the trailer is 102 tonnes. It is typically used for carrying the counterweights of large mobile cranes.
This version of the model is paired with a MAN TGX XLX 6x4 tractor and is in the colours of Wiesbauer, a family owned German crane and heavy haulage company founded in 1958.
Packaging
It comes in a standard WSI-branded box.
Inside, the model sits in an expanded polystyrene tray with a clear plastic lid and bottom.
There were no missing parts on the review model although one trailer tie-down point was loose in the box and very easily re-fitted.
No instructions are included. The only assembly required is to join the tractor and trailer together and to fit the optional deck posts.
Detail
The tractor unit is high quality, with very good transmission and suspension features on the chassis. The tyre tread patterns are different front and back.
The MAN is marked TGX 33.540. It has accurate graphics, detailing and number plates, and the door mirrors look particularly good with the Wiesbauer logo. Inside the cab, the detail level is also good.
Under the cab is a detailed engine marked 'MAN common rail'.
There are coiled air lines and a nicely highlighted filler cap. At the back the rear lights and number plate look fine.
The trailer is very detailed. Underneath, the trailer structure is excellent and plastic lines extend from the front to each axle assembly. Each axle is a fully detailed unit with suspension and hydraulic features, and wheel arches. The tyres and wheels are good, and the pair of hydraulic landing legs have metal pads and smooth pistons.
There is an excellent deck surface with plastic replica timber decking. The main metal structure has diamond plating and a headboard at the front end. Along the sides of the deck various tying points are present. The rear light bar is very good with many graphics.
A set of manual controls for the trailer are represented forward of the first axle, and the cabling runs to this panel. On the opposite side is a spare wheel holder with spare wheel.
A separate pack of metal deck posts are provided and these plug into holes in the deck edge.
Features
The MAN has steering with a moderate amount of movement. It has a fully tilting cab which opens up to a good angle.
The trailer has an opening holder for the spare wheel. The hydraulic landing legs can be screwed down with the pistons remaining smooth in appearance.
The trailer has very good steering with, counted from the front, axle 1 and axles 3 to 6 steering. The rear four axles are linked together, and they give an excellent representation of the proportional nature of the steering with axle 6 steering the most.
Each axle has independent working suspension powered by small springs.
As an additional feature, axle 1 can be raised and clipped out of service.
Deck posts can be fitted if desired although some sit loose in their holes and so lean easily.
Quality
The overall quality level of the model is high with very good detailing and careful use of plastic.
The paintwork and graphics are very good.
Price
The model is good value.
Overall
This is a very good model and poses particularly well with Wiesbauer crane models. It is highly recommended.
