The Hamm HW 90 is a static three-drum roller in a traditional design.  It has an operating weight of up to 12.5 tonnes.

The real machine has hydrostatic drive and two operator seating positions.

Packaging

The model comes in a small Hamm branded box which lists a few specification details about the real machine, and the model is wrapped in polythene and packed between polystyrene trays.  There were no defects or missing parts on the review model.

There is no assembly to do as the model is complete out of the box.

Detail

The roller drums are metal with a fine steel coloured finish, and the detailing of the bearings and hubs on the rear drums is intricate.  There are finely modelled scrapers on each of the drums.

The quality of the casting of the body is very good with some precise detailing including non-slip steps, and panel bolt heads.  Mesh grilles and fine gauge handrails add to the realistic look and some very tiny warning notices give an authentic feel.  The front work lights look great with fine protective grilles.  At the rear there is a pleasing filler cap and delicate lights.

The metal cab has black seals around the windows, and includes mirrors inside the cab as well as outside.  The access door is a good fit and the hinges are not too obtrusive.  Inside the cab there is a pair of operator’s seats and a detailed operator's console.  The floor also has perforations.

Features

The drums roll smoothly and the steering of the front drum turns to a good angle.  It is controlled by a small hydraulic ram.

The rear access door to the work platform opens to a wide angle.

Quality

This is a high quality model which is mainly metal and has very good paintwork and graphics.

Price

The model is good value for money.

Overall

Wirtgen Group models are usually to a high standard and the HW 90 is a straightforward model which is executed very well.  It is highly recommended.
