This is a model of a VestasV90 3MW Nacelle
which is the generation unit of a wind turbine. It
is fitted with frames at each end for transport using a
Mega Windmill Transporter. It can be transported using
another suitable heavy trailer but this nacelle is not designed
to be transported without the frames attached.
The V90 weighs around 70 tonnes and the frames add a further
5 tonnes.
Packaging
The box is unusual as it is completely plain cardboard.
Inside the model is wrapped in tissue and held between two
foam trays. There were no defects or
missing parts on the review model.
There is no information about the V90 or the model.
Detail
The model is fairly heavy as it is a robust resin piece
with metal frames at the ends.
The detail on the V90 is quite good with bolt heads at the
sides and ends and there is a silver grille pattern at the
rear. The graphics are crisply applied.
The frames at each end are metal and
are nice castings which
replicate the detail of the structures well and include
bolt heads and lifting eyes.
Features
The frames can be unscrewed and removed although one of
the screws was glued on the review model and was
difficult to remove. The screw holes left on the
nacelle are a little untidy however.
The model can be posed either on a heavy trailer or it
fits well on Nooteboom Mega Windmill Transporter.
It can also be posed being lifted using the frames.
There are no lifting points on the nacelle.
Quality
The resin nacelle is well made and the frames
are very good. The paint and graphics are fine.
Price
It is perhaps a little expensive although it is
a relatively large part.
Overall
This nacelle is a good looking accessory which
makes a convincing load. It is only a little bit
of a pity that it has not been designed to be attached
to other windmill components such that a complete wind
turbine could be formed. It is a recommended
accessory.
